Parachute 03:55
I wouldn’t fall away – without a parachute Some people tell the truth – somebody has to When my feet touch the ground – one foot is all I use I really need two – I really need you I didn’t see the light, I guess nothing happens overnight, And I don’t wanna fall away without you I couldn’t see the way – as if the road was gone I couldn’t sing along – it wasn’t my song, but Maybe there is a breeze – someone who already blew my shame out the door – my cherie amour I didn’t see the light, I guess nothing happens overnight, And I don’t wanna fall away without you If you are my parachute, then I promise you, I’ve never fallen so slow in my life I’m glad to say, it’s okay, you’re a call away I used to keep my phone silent every single day I didn’t see the light, I guess nothing happens overnight, And I don’t wanna fall away without you If you are my parachute, then I promise you, I’ve never fallen so slow in my life I’m glad to say, it’s okay, you’re a call away I used to keep my phone silent every single… If you are my parachute, then I promise you, I’ve never fallen so slow in my life I’m glad to say, it’s okay, you’re a call away I used to keep my phone silent every single day

If you wanted to fly to Mars, I wouldn’t say no Look at an apple and say it’s an orange, I wouldn’t say no If you wanted to start a band, I wouldn’t say no If you wanted to start a romance, well, I couldn’t say no You’re a maze that has no exit I’m amazed inside your labyrinth If you wanted to sleep in the rain, I wouldn’t say that was insane Eat a couple apples the size of the moon, well, I will do that for you Maybe I should just cancel my plans, ‘cause you hold me in the palm of your hand Looking at the stoplight, it’s red as a rose, and you told me to go You’re a maze that has no exit I’m amazed inside your labyrinth Do you ever sleep at night? Does it take some time? Does your mind play games? Games that don’t get played to lose Anything you want is a thing I’ll do – you ever sleep at night? Does it take some time? Does your mind play games? Does your mind play games? Games that don’t get played to lose Anything you want is a thing I’ll do

Walking backwards in my mind, I couldn’t find a photo of the time when two birds told me to throw the right stone It was always problematic, like a jacket with two holes where the pockets should be, I don’t know why I keep walking back Naked problems, lying there I couldn’t be the tortoise or the hare But two birds showed me the way to fly Put me back up in the sky, and I know why I see search in your eyes You might be able to find answers inside my antidote, and it won’t stop Pencil in my pocket, so I can write to you, letters that connect all the words I want to prove Everything is different when I see through into other windows, unlike what I always knew Passing away the time, Skipping like a stone You’re picking every rose, Thinking that there’s always a new one I see search in your eyes You might be able to find answers inside my antidote, and it won’t stop I see search in your eyes You might be able to find answers inside my antidote, and it won’t stop

Mineral 03:41
I don't know why I could never phase you I pray to the world that my words would break through And time moves... See it now, Is it just like new? Crawling away from the same emotion Somebody stands and then walks the ocean Away, like sun On a wave On a simple day Maybe this could be alternate history But I think, If you look just the right way into the picture, Everything will rearrange and then it forms a figure And I wanna be there to see you too In my head I feel it forever and then I know it's something like a mineral Crystal and stone Walking with Chronos This solid love is something like a mineral In my head I feel it forever and then I know it's something like a mineral Crystal and stone Walking with Chronos This solid love is something like a mineral It could only break into two Pieces traveling back to what we knew Granite boulders inside my bones Complex fossils inside your soul, It's true If it was just a page, I would turn it over But just the sound of your name makes it even harder, When time walks across stone on bridges unknown In my head I feel it forever and then I know it's something like a mineral Crystal and stone Walking with Chronos This solid love is something like a mineral In my head I feel it forever and then I know it's something like a mineral Crystal and stone Walking with Chronos This solid love is something like a mineral It could only break into two Pieces traveling back to what we knew

Sharks 04:05
How do you always know, how to single handedly save my soul? When a new direction seems like change, the captain’s compass starts acting strange Sharks in the water, bite my feet, making me forget what I know Sharks in the water, make me swim farther and farther I could swim to the rocks, I’m not getting lost Leaving my island in the box, in the box... When I rest my head I feel you there Why does a question breathe so much air? Loving what is right in front of you Makes a tone-deaf robin, sing their song in tune Sharks in the water, bite my feet, making me forget what I know Sharks in the water, make me swim farther and farther I could swim to the rocks, I’m not getting lost Leaving my island in the box, in the box...

Animals 03:51
I wanna fast forward Open the book and take a look, past the foreword We only see four letter words and I wanna go where the animal is unheard If i could just rewind, I would wanna go back to the time, when we had time, just to fly around each other, like a couple butterflies – Brown eyes, you're the monarch of my mind I think you're the queen of my thoughts I’m waking up thinking about what does a monkey ever really want I feel like a wolf in the back of the pack Behind time, never in front Rat race, I'm last and you're late Do you ever wanna go somewhere where no one knows that we are animals? And do you know how sad I am when a whole human breaks away the better half? With that half glass, you won’t last I think I’m picking up your scent I sent a letter just to feel like a person not an insect If Samsa had a Samsung, he probably would’ve called his mom, but something in the water said no We’re the only species that stares into a TV and knows how we compound our sediment When you broke the mirror, did you see yourself clearer, and know now is the time to look around? We’re the only species that stares into a TV and knows how we compound our sediment When you broke the mirror, did you see yourself clearer, and know now is the time...? Do you ever wanna go somewhere where no one knows that we are animals? And do you know how sad I am when a whole human breaks away the better half? With that half glass, you won’t last

Round and around, we circle the light Life is alive with heat in the night We wouldn’t be here every single day without every ray Every sunbeam makes or breaks a fragile place Miracles come in many a shape Ours is a perfect curve in a space Walking across this great land, breathing oxygen I can still reast my head on that, when it’s not flat I can’t see every star in the sky I know it’s easy to be wondering why Wondering why Ask yourself what you’ve been told It’s probably right, will you ever know? Wondering why You want to find a community, people that see the same way that you see Living a lie will never really work, it will only hurt And the problem is falling star will always burn I can’t see every star in the sky I know it’s easy to be wondering why Wondering why Ask yourself what you’ve been told It’s probably right, will you ever know? Wondering why

Other Nights 03:22
He could look through a window nobody closed He would always see everything concrete He could look through a window in a digital obstacle He would never see how everything should be... be... be... He would travel through London, alone with his luggage He would never see the people he would meet He could open any door and get what he asked for Too bad it wouldn’t be exactly what he needed And then someone who loved him fell from above him, It was gravity picking up his feet Took a short walk over to where he’s from, Anything’s better than going numb You don’t have to feel it by making lies, Surprise, surprise Just around the bend is something that never should’ve been It's like the film inside a camera, You might not see, might not see Every part, every start, has to have an end Like the wind blowing a silhouette, You might not see, see it yet

I’m not afraid of trying to live under the rain How could I ever be simile? Do you compare everything? And life won’t go by too fast, if i don’t think like a Ferrari And, now and then, it will rain Raining in L.A., in L.A.… I’m not afraid of trying to live under the rain Truth be told, in my mind, that is gold Money can’t buy what is dear, what I hold I am alone when I’m walking in the canyon Oooh… Walk the world like it’s all in Ohio Money blindfolds Build a square into solar systems where money can’t stare, but we know it’s there Summer nights, come and go Either way, I’m gonna know what is true Now and then, it will rain Raining in L.A., in L.A.… Now and then, it will rain Raining in L.A., in L.A.… Truth be told, in my mind, that is gold Money can’t buy what is dear, what I hold I am alone when I’m walking in the canyon with money companions Truth be told, in my mind, that is gold Money can’t buy what is dear, what I hold I am alone when I’m walking in the canyon with money companions

I Think 03:21
Thrown away like sand in an hourglass that has no past Soldiers run like water does in singular gardens all across the globe We could see and think like iPods sync, but thinking up takes luck, when the sound you hear goes down, down, down I think therefore I am just like everyone, Under sun, under moonlight It might be right, when feelings can go so low then they rise in a balloon size coffin All aboard the train of thought, We will ride away until the valley stops Look ahead, I never said, It would ever be easy to caress my mind I think therefore I am just like everyone, Under sun, under moonlight It might be right, when feelings can go so low then they rise in a balloon size coffin Maybe we can think about something that won’t make us sad... I think therefore I am just like everyone, Under sun, under moonlight It might be right, when feelings can go so low then they rise in a balloon size coffin

Daisies 04:39
Daisies die when bullets can fly across the open sky Steel and blood will never save us Enough is enough Isn’t it clear when the clouds come apart? The flowers carry sunshine in their hearts Carry some love through the day from the start And don’t conceal, reveal your heart When did anyone get away, away from a steel rain? Somewhere far away from this place, Love never goes to waste Maybe it’s up to us here on Earth to decide what a child fears – Is it a gun? A simple question Where will a daisy ever grow up? If I could change the world for just one, Daisies would only get shot by water guns Innocent blood dripping from a window sill Why do we give anyone a way to kill? We don’t need enemies Everyone plants a seed And we’ll see what will be Guns won’t grow on trees If I could change the world for just one, Daisies would only get shot by water guns Innocent blood dripping from a window sill Why do we give anyone a way to kill? Or maybe it’s up to us here on Earth to decide what a child fears – Is it a gun? A simple question Where will a daisy ever grow up? If I could change the world for just one, Daisies would only get shot by water guns Innocent blood dripping from a window sill Why do we give anyone a way to kill? We don’t need enemies Everyone plants a seed And we’ll see what will be

about

Lane Beckstrom is a Chicago based musician who has been an in-demand bass player and a contributor to some of the city's biggest releases of the last 10 years – and now, he's stepping up to center stage as a solo artist for the first time.

About as well-seasoned of a musician as one could be at his young age, Lane started out as a teenager in the cross-genre live band Kids These Days, getting notable acclaim as part of the Save Money movement. From there he'd go on to collaborate with The JuJu Exchange, Knox Fortune, and Resavoir, and contribute to the Chance The Rapper & Nico Segal-fronted project, Donnie Trump & The Social Experiment's 'Surf', which found him working with an all-star cast including BJ The Chicago Kid, Raury, and Eryn Allen Kane.

Now debuting as a singer/songwriter (as well as producing, playing synths, drums, and of course, bass) – Lane’s debut LP, 'Looking Out', is a wide-eyed, sunny dive into Beckstrom's own world, practically bursting at the seams with an array of imaginative colors, analog warmth, wildlife, and flowers abound.

Co-produced with Paul Cherry, and recorded and mixed at his studio The Dungeon in Jefferson Park – 'Looking Out' also features a strong supporting cast of fellow Chi City talent, including fellow Kids These Days alumni Macie Stewart, Will Miller of Resavoir and Whitney, guitarists Matt Gold and Reno Cruz, and drummers Spencer Tweedy and Jeremy Cunningham.

To go along with the album, you can also find the Knox Fortune remix to the album's first single, "Parachute" in our Fresh Selects Remix Series: freshselects.bandcamp.com/album/parachute-knox-fortune-remix
